SMM: Bosch is Toyota's strongest rival in the field of hydrogen fuel cells?

The era of global electrification has come, and the trend of renewable new energy gradually replacing traditional energy is irreversible. The diversity research and development of renewable energy has been closely concerned by the whole industry. "hydrogen fuel cell" has become the most "heated" new energy driving mode in addition to pure electric technology, and even in the Japanese automobile market, its development momentum is better than that of pure electricity. Hydrogen fuel cell has gradually become a technical force that can not be ignored in the new energy market.

Against this background, Bosch, a global auto parts giant, recently announced that on November 29, Bosch China hydrogen fuel Cell Center officially laid the foundation in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province. It is understood that the center is also Bosch's first fuel cell center outside Germany, planned to be completed in 2020, 2021 to achieve small batch production. It covers all test equipment from key components to stacks and fuel cell systems, as well as trial lines for stack samples.

Regarding the arrival of the hydrogen fuel Cell Centre in China, Dr. Gackstatter Uwe, President of Bosch Powertrain Solutions, said: "hydrogen fuel cells have the advantages of zero emission, high energy conversion efficiency and a variety of fuel sources, which is one of the ultimate technical routes for new energy vehicles. As Bosch Group's first fuel cell center outside Germany. "

Indeed, the final technical route for new energy vehicles has not yet been determined at this stage. Perhaps in the future China's new energy market and even the global new energy market, pure electricity and hydrogen fuel two technical routes will be parallel. Due to the advantages of light weight, long mileage, short fuel replenishment time and zero emissions from driving, fuel cells will be more used in medium and heavy commercial vehicles that require long distance driving. Pure electric cars, with higher penetration and more convenient infrastructure, will face more private consumers.

In any case, the future market magnitude of China's new energy market is still attractive enough, and there is nothing wrong with Bosch's early layout. "China is an important market for the research and development and application of fuel cells in the future. To this end, the establishment of a hydrogen fuel cell center in Wuxi will further enhance Bosch's local competitiveness. The development and application of a complete set of fuel cell key components such as hydrogen spray valves and electronic air compressors in Wuxi, as well as the manufacture of stack samples, will also lay a solid foundation for large-scale mass production of fuel cells in the future. " This is Bosch Powertrain China president Wang Weiliang for the new foundation of the fuel cell center expectations, Bosch for the market segment of the "ambitious."

In the cold winter of the car market, there is also pressure on the business and profitability of head parts suppliers such as Bosch. Therefore, at this time to choose a more thorough "strategic transformation", gradually shift the enterprise center to the electrification field, for the next decade of Bosch is more beneficial.

In addition to the groundbreaking ceremony, Bosch announced that the fuel cell center was located in Wuxi, as well as its innovation and software research and development center. After all, in this gradual electrification transition, software iteration is as important as hardware innovation.

It is reported that the software center will develop technology solutions suitable for the local market in China. The future direction covers: electrification, intelligent network joint automobile, interconnection solution, big data platform and so on. The center is scheduled to be completed and put into use in mid-2020, with an initial investment of more than 35 million yuan.

Bosch, the world's largest TIER1, transformation, has begun. In the Chinese market, the pace of transformation is much more violent than expected, which is another greater challenge and opportunity for the century-old enterprise. At the same time, in the Japanese automobile market not far away, Toyota hydrogen fuel cell technology is becoming more and more mature, how to shorten the R & D time to achieve product landing is a problem that Bosch needs to consider.
