Apollo Mining to implement Exploration Plan for lead and Zinc Kroussou Project

Published: Dec 2, 2019 13:54

Early next year, Apollo Minerals Limited, an Apollo mining company, will continue to explore the surface of the Kroussou lead and zinc project in Gabon. The work includes soil surveys, geological mapping and cuttings sampling, and initial samples will be sent to the laboratory for analysis.

The results, which are expected in a few weeks, will also help with exploration plans early next year, and Apollo will drill for high-grade shallow lead-zinc deposits that have already been discovered.

Previous exploration work has determined that there are about 150 zinc-lead deposits in the project area with an expected geological strike length of more than 70 km,.

The Kroussou project is located in Ngouni é Province, western Gabon, 220 km southeast of the capital Libreville, covering an area of approximately 1000 square kilometres. It is a large near-surface lead-zinc-lead project and has so far demonstrated the potential of provincial base metals. According to the profit agreement signed between Apollo and Trek, Apollo Minerals will receive an 80% interest in the project.

Between 1962 and 1980, the Kroussou project was explored intermittently mainly by BRGM and later cooperated with COMILOG, an organization of the Government of Gabon. BRGM has carried out surface geochemical studies, including soil, cuttings, river sediment sampling and so on. In the Kroussou project, a large number of sulphides intersect to increase the possibility of zinc + lead mineralization.

Then, in the first half of 2017, Trek conducted an exploration aimed at confirming the presence of zinc + lead mineralization near the surface originally identified by BRGM. Trek spent about $1.2 million on the initial drilling program for the Kroussou project.

Lead Prices Stagnant, Smelters Maintain Firm Offers Amid Losses
Lead prices were in the doldrums, while secondary lead smelters maintained firm offers due to losses. The mainstream spot order ex-factory prices including tax narrowed the discount to the SMM #1 lead average price by 100 yuan/mt, shifting to a premium of 0–25 yuan/mt, with some smelters halting offers and sales.

"Domestic Secondary Crude Lead Market Slows as Holidays Approach, Smelters Halt Production"
Pre-holiday stockpiling by downstream enterprises had largely concluded, and a few had already entered the holiday period, completely suspending procurement. Next week, secondary lead smelters will enter a concentrated wave of production halts and holidays, resulting in sluggish trading activity in the spot market. Offers for spot refined lead orders were sparse, with prices moving in line with the market.

Sluggish Transactions in Domestic Secondary Crude Lead Market, Prices at 15,250-15,400 Yuan/mt
The domestic secondary crude lead market experienced sluggish transactions. As of February 6, 2026, the ex-factory tax-exclusive offers for domestic secondary crude lead stood at 15,250-15,400 yuan/mt. Downstream refined lead and alloy smelters gradually entered the holiday period, showing weak stockpiling willingness. Overseas lead ingot suppliers basically halted transactions with China due to poor consumption in the Chinese market, with only some previously concluded shipments maintaining normal in-transit transportation. The trading atmosphere in the secondary crude lead market will continue to weaken next week.
