SHANGHAI, Nov 20 (SMM) – Lvliang of China's top coal-producing province of Shanxi issued a yellow alert, or third-highest warning in China's four-tier system, for November 20-23 to combat heavy smog expected during the period.
Integrated steelmakers in the city are required to halve the capacity of blast furnaces and suspend all sintering and pelletising capacity. They are allowed to recover the sintering and pelletising capacity by half at the most after the smog alert remains in place for 120 hours.
Local steel mills that produce with electric arc furnaces (EAFs) should stop operating and delivering cargoes during November 20-23.
Coke plants are ordered to extend their coke production period to as long as 48 hours.
