The tariff on imports of unwrought aluminium alloy from Pakistan is now set at 5%

SHANGHAI, Nov 20 (SMM) – China will remove its tariff on unwrought aluminium alloy from Pakistan from December 1, when the second phase of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the two countries goes into effect, according to a report from the China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association (CMRA) Recycling Metal Branch.

The tariff on imports of unwrought aluminium alloy from Pakistan is now set at 5%, compared to a zero rate for Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries.

China’s appetite for unwrought aluminium alloy has swelled in the recent months, due to the raw material shortages caused by a sharp decline in imports of aluminium scrap.

Data from China customs showed that China imported 18,706 mt of unwrought aluminium alloy in September, the highest since SMM records began in January 2018. This was up 16.9% from a month ago and 140% from a year ago.
