An inspector from the industry ministry said on Nov 9 that new steel capacity expansions should be “strictly prohibited”

SHANGHAI, Nov 14 (SMM) – China has reiterated its resolve to ban the expansion of new iron and steel projects, regarding that as one of the five key tasks to help facilitate the development of the industry.

Lv Guixin, an inspector of the raw materials department under China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, said on November 9 at a forum on standards for high quality development in China's steel industry that new steel capacity expansions should be “strictly prohibited” in the attempt to achieve “high quality” development of the steel industry.

Lv also proposed other four aspects that should be focused on, including accelerating the merger and reorganisation of steelmakers and improving the ability of securing iron ore supply.
