[SMM rare Earth Daily Review 10.29] rare Earth prices continue to fall and pay attention to demand in the short term

Published: Oct 29, 2019 20:40

SMM, 29 Oct:

The price of rare earth continues to decline today, and the price of heavy rare earth represented by dysprosium oxide and terbium oxide has dropped obviously. Dysprosium oxide 155-1.58 million yuan / ton, terbium oxide 350-3.55 million yuan / ton, holmium oxide 33-340000 yuan / ton, praseodymium oxide neodymium oxide 28.5-290000 yuan / ton, neodymium oxide fell to 28.7-292000 yuan / ton. Affected by the gradual easing of the supply side in the future, the price of medium and heavy rare earths has been lowered to varying degrees, and the supply of goods at low prices continues to exist in the market, but the sentiment of downstream enterprises towards the market has intensified, and the actual transaction situation in the market is relatively weak. On the light rare earths side, weak demand for light rare earths has also affected falling prices. In the short term, focus on whether follow-up demand has improved.

Lynas Signs $96M Deal with US DoD for Rare Earth Supply, Following Expanded Agreement with Japan
Australia's Lynas Rare Earths signed a binding letter of intent with the US Department of Defense to supply the US side with light and heavy rare earth oxides worth $96 million over four years, with a floor sales price for Pr-Nd of $110/kg. Based on this, the two sides will finalise a definitive agreement and discuss further cooperation on heavy rare earth supply. The agreement followed Lynas's expanded supply arrangement with Japan's JARE. Under the March 10 agreement, JARE will purchase at least 5,000 mt of Pr-Nd oxide annually at a floor price of $110/kg and buy 50% of Lynas's heavy rare earth production. The price floor matched the 10-year price commitment the US made to MP Materials last year, signalling that Western clients were willing to pay a premium for "non-China" rare earths.
