SHANGHAI, Oct 28 (SMM) – China's imports of aluminium scrap rose 17.9% from a year ago to stand at 114,300 mt in September, the latest customs data showed, after the imports increased 7.4% on a yearly basis in August, the first month after import restrictions on high-grade aluminium scrap took effect.
Compared with August, however, imports of aluminium scrap were 18.7% lower in September, likely weighed by rising concerns about a scale-back in import quotas to be granted for the fourth quarter.
The US remained the top supplier of aluminium scrap for China last month, even as the America-originated materials shrank 18% on the year and 30% on the month, standing at 27,000 mt in September.
Canada was the second largest source of imports last month, accounting for 14,000 mt of the imports, 30% higher from September 2018.
