SMM: October 26, the Great Wall Pinghu vehicle project launch ceremony was held in Pinghu City, Zhejiang Province. Wei Jianjun, chairman of the Great Wall holding Group, Hao Jianjun, chairman of the Great Wall Industrial Co., Ltd., and Meng Xiangjun, vice president of the Great Wall Automobile, jointly witnessed the construction of the Great Wall Automobile Pinghu vehicle Base.

Pinghu City is a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Jiaxing City, Zhejiang Province, located in the Yangtze River Delta, south of Hangzhou Bay, east of Shanghai, with public, iron, water, air and rail integrated three-dimensional transport logistics hub. The location of the Great Wall Automobile Project in Pinghu not only provides a low-cost convenient channel for the future freight transportation of the Great Wall Automobile, but also plays an important role in introducing and retaining international talents. it is an important support for the globalization strategy of Great Wall Automobile.

The Great Wall Automobile Pinghu vehicle Project has a total investment of about 11 billion yuan, covering a total area of about 1200 mu, with a planned annual production capacity of 100000 vehicles. The project integrates production, research and development, covering the vehicle production base and Pinghu R & D center, after the completion of the main production of Great Wall Automobile Harvard brand and new energy products. Among them, Pinghu vehicle production base of about 600 mu, around the "green, low carbon, environmental protection, intelligence, lean" concept, including stamping, welding, painting, final assembly four major workshops. The project focuses on the synchronous development and construction of products, processes and factories, and creates high-quality projects through the application of new technology and scientific layout planning.

Based on this concept, the Great Wall Automobile Pinghu vehicle production base has adopted a large number of global advanced production technology and equipment, greatly improved the production efficiency, and always adhered to the environmental protection. In the aspect of production and manufacturing, the Great Wall Automobile Pinghu vehicle production Base adopts a large number of robots instead of traditional manual production, and realizes 100% automatic production in multiple production workshops, which not only improves the overall flexibility level of the factory, but also realizes the multi-type collinear production. It also improves the production efficiency and effectively ensures the quality of the whole vehicle. In the aspect of environmental protection, by adopting many advanced technologies, such as film pretreatment process, compact waterborne coating technology and dry spraying room, the Great Wall Automobile Pinghu vehicle production Base can save about 200 tons of paint every year, reduce VOC emissions by about 40 tons, effectively reduce emissions, and implement the concept of green environmental protection and sustainable development.

The Great Wall Automobile Pinghu R & D Center and runway project covers an area of about 600mu, of which the overall planning and construction area of the R & D center is about 250000 square meters. The R & D center will focus on intelligence, interconnection, cleanliness and sharing. After completion, it includes product R & D center, test center, test track and supporting catering, product display, staff leisure and entertainment and other functions.

As the latest achievement of the global strategic layout of the Great Wall Automobile, the Great Wall Automobile Pinghu vehicle Project will work with the completed Hebei Baoding, Xushui, Tianjin, Tula, Chongqing Yongchuan and the planned Zhangjiagang, Shandong Rizhao, Jiangsu Taizhou and other places to build full-process vehicle production bases. Along with the "Belt and Road Initiative" along the Ecuador, Malaysia, Tunisia and other KD factories to form the Great Wall Automobile "915" global production system, to build the global production layout of the Great Wall Automobile. The foundation of Pinghu R & D Center will further consolidate the global R & D system of Great Wall Automobile and further support the globalization strategy of Great Wall Automobile.

[SMM Express] Construction of the coking, power and ferrochrome plants at the Xintai-developed Palm River Energy and Metallurgical Industrial Park in Beitbridge is now complete, according to a ZANU-PF government progress update. The milestone follows the complex's first furnace commissioning in March 2025 and comes as the project's power infrastructure — currently a 100 MW coal-fired plant, en route to a targeted 1,200 MW, with surplus electricity destined for the national grid — continues to expand toward full design capacity. A Xintai official told commodity data provider OPIS in May that the complex's third furnace was targeted for commissioning in August 2026 — this month. We look forward. Palm River forms part of a broader Special Economic Zone spanning 5,163 hectares and is being developed in phases, with Mines Minister Dr Polite Kambamura citing the project in April as central to Zimbabwe's push for a share of the US$15.8 billion global ferrochrome market. With Zimbabwe's total ferrochrome exports reaching 433,293 tonnes across the whole sector in 2025, Palm River's ramp-up, and confirmation of the third furnace's commissioning, will be a key indicator of how much additional volume the country's beneficiation drive can add to that base over the coming year.

[SMM Express] South Africa's ferrochrome exports fell 44.57% year-on-year as of June 2026, driven largely by extended smelter suspensions at Wonderkop and Boshoek. Against that backdrop, two developments elsewhere in the global ferrochrome market this year point to a supply base actively reconfiguring around Kazakhstan and Europe. In January 2026, Albania's ALBCHROME began a capacity expansion and modernization of its ferrochrome smelting facilities, aimed specifically at capturing rising demand from European stainless steel manufacturers. The timing aligns with the EU's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, in effect since January 2026, which favours suppliers with shorter transport distances and lower embedded carbon footprints — criteria that structurally favour a European supplier like Albania over South Africa. Separately, in March 2026, Glencore proposed backing Kazakh businessman Shakhmurat Mutalip's $1.4 billion bid for a 40% stake in Eurasian Resources Group (ERG), one of the world's largest ferrochrome producers via its Kazchrome subsidiary, offering an $800 million upfront pre-payment in exchange for future ferrochrome shipments. Glencore's move is notable given the company's own deep stake in South African ferrochrome through the Glencore-Merafe Chrome Venture, pointing to diversification of its ferrochrome supply exposure beyond South Africa. With Kazakhstan's Bolashak mine continuing to ramp toward 7.5 million tonnes/year of chrome ore capacity and Albania positioning to serve Europe directly, South African producers face a more competitive global landscape by the time domestic smelting capacity is fully restored, rather than an unchanged market to return to.
