SHANGHAI, Oct 17 (SMM) – The order backlog held by Chinese shipyards dropped 8.2% from a year earlier and 11.1% from the end of 2018 to 79.41 million deadweight tons (DWT) as of the end of September, according to figures that the China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry released earlier this week.
In the first nine months of this year, Chinese shipbuilders received new orders totaling 19.47 million DWT, down 27.4% from the same period last year, while vessel construction completion rose 6.7% year on year to 29.36 million DWT.
