Primary aluminium inventories shrink 32,000 mt over weekend

Stocks decreased by 32,000 mt from Oct 10 to 945,000 mt as of Oct 14

SHANGHAI, Oct 14 (SMM) – Social inventories of primary aluminium in China resumed the downtrend over the weekend, after an increase in the first week after the National Day holiday.

SMM data showed that stocks across eight consumption areas in China, including SHFE warrants, decreased by 32,000 mt from Thursday October 10 to 945,000 mt as of Monday October 14.

Wuxi, Jiangsu – 260,000 mt

Shanghai – 165,000 mt

Nanhai, Guangdong – 304,000 mt

Gongyi, Henan – 82,000 mt

Hangzhou, Zhejiang – 51,000 mt

Tianjin – 54,000 mt

Linyi, Shandong – 8,000 mt

Chongqing –21,000 mt

Domestic Primary Aluminum Imports Up 0.2% MoM, Exports Down 30.7% in August 2026

Imports: Data from the General Administration of Customs shows domestic primary aluminum imports were approximately 186,000 tonnes in August 2026, up 0.2% MoM and down 14.6% YoY. For Jan-Aug 2026, cumulative domestic primary aluminum imports stood at roughly 1.66 million tonnes, falling 3.4% YoY. Exports: Per customs statistics, domestic primary aluminum exports reached about 22,000 tonnes in August 2026, down 30.7% MoM and 14.7% YoY. Cumulative exports over Jan-Aug 2026 were around 168,000 tonnes, rising approximately 9.3% YoY. Net Imports: Domestic net imports of primary aluminum came in at 164,000 tonnes in August 2026, an increase of 6.5% MoM and a decline of 14.6% YoY. The cumulative net imports for Jan-Aug 2026 were about 1.49 million tonnes, down 4.7% YoY.

Bauxite Imports Drop 18.9% in August, Guinean Bauxite Down 22.4% MoM

【Aluminum Flash News – Bauxite Imports in August】 According to the General Administration of Customs, domestic bauxite imports stood at 15.451 million tonnes in August 2026, down 18.9% month-on-month. For Jan-Aug 2026, cumulative domestic bauxite imports reached 155.57 million tonnes, rising 9.7% year-on-year. In August 2026, domestic imports of Guinean bauxite were 11.551 million tonnes, dropping 22.4% month-on-month and 6.3% year-on-year. The cumulative domestic imports of Guinean bauxite from January to August 2026 amounted to 124.839 million tonnes, up 15.7% year-on-year. (Customs HS Code: 26060000)
