Shanghai bonded nickel stocks edge down on outbound shipments

Stocks fell 2.8% from Sep 27 to 24,700 mt as of Oct 11

SHANGHAI, Oct 11 (SMM) – Inventories of refined nickel in the Shanghai bonded areas dipped 700 mt, or 2.8% from September 27 to 24,700 mt as of October 11, showed SMM data, as cargoes were shipped outbound after losses on imports widened to 10,000 yuan/mt.

During the same period, bonded stocks of nickel briquettes fell 300 mt to 6,000 mt.

In the week ending September 27, Shanghai bonded nickel stocks fell for the first time in about two month.

[SMM Nickel Flash] This week, auxiliary material prices were generally stable with slight rise, while market sentiment in the coking coal and coke markets improved, and coke producers showed a stronger willingness to increase prices. Ore side, Philippine ore prices edged lower, while Indonesian nickel ore prices continued to rise. Meanwhile, downstream high-grade NPI prices remained under pressure, and amid cost uncertainties caused by high freight rates and geopolitical conflicts, smelter profit margins were squeezed.
