SMM, Sept. 26 / PRNewswire-Asianet /-Samsung SDI recently signed an agreement with Akasol, a maker of power battery systems, at the Frankfurt International Auto Show to supply lithium battery cells and modules for the power systems of electric commercial vehicles.

Akasol is a leading manufacturer of power battery systems in Germany, with nearly 30 years of experience in electric buses, commercial vehicles, railway vehicles, forklifts and ships.

Under the agreement, Samsung SDI will supply Akasol with lithium battery cells and modules with a total capacity of 13GWh between 2020 and 2027. Akasol plans to use Samsung SDI batteries and modules to develop its third generation power battery system to help it meet two large battery orders from commercial vehicle manufacturers.

"in addition to Samsung's position as a technology leader, our decision to expand our partnership depends on the competitiveness of its products and the road map for innovative technologies in the coming years, as well as the technical independence of the production of high-performance battery systems, which is in line with our goals." Said Sven Schultz, chief executive of Akasol. Jeongwook (JW) Kim, executive vice president of Samsung SDI, explained: "We are very proud to be one of the strategic suppliers of Akasol battery systems and will continue to innovate and develop in the field of battery technology."

Currently, Samsung SDI core customers include Volvo, BMW, Audi, Volkswagen, Jaguar and Fiat Chrysler and other carmakers, the market is mainly concentrated in the European passenger car sector. Through its expansion with Akasol, Samsung SDI has helped accelerate its presence in the European market, expanding its power business from the European passenger car market to commercial vehicles outside Europe, thereby increasing its global power battery market share.

It is understood that the corresponding cells and modules will be produced in Samsung SDI's European and Asian factories, and then assembled in Akasol's German factory. Currently, Samsung SDI is expanding its power battery capacity worldwide.

Silicon Metal Market Review for January and Outlook for February
In January, the silicon metal market experienced a relatively loose supply-demand balance, with a theoretical inventory buildup of approximately 30,000 mt. In February, both supply and demand contracted simultaneously, and the market is expected to show a tight balance or minor destocking. The current high industry inventory still requires time to be digested, and the sustainability of destocking remains a key variable affecting price trends and market sentiment.

A plant in northern China is calling for bids for indium ingots and bismuth ingots
SMM, February 6 - According to SMM’s investigation of market information, a large smelter in northern China began public bidding for a certain quantity of indium ingots and bismuth ingots starting yesterday. Market sources indicate that the starting price for these indium ingots exceeds 4,000 yuan per kilogram, while the starting price for bismuth ingots is above 150,000 yuan per ton. The bidding results are expected to be announced before the Spring Festival. Market participants note that, given the clear trend of sluggish trading activity ahead of the Spring Festival, the timing of this bidding is not ideal. However, the relatively favorable starting prices have generated considerable market anticipation for the outcome of the bidding.
