Copper production unaffected by pre-holiday environmental curbs so far

But controls on transportation indeed intensified

SHANGHAI, Sep 23 (SMM) – Copper smelters in north China have yet to receive notice of production cuts ahead of the upcoming National Day holiday, but local controls on transportation indeed intensified, an SMM survey indicated on Monday September 23.

Market participants lowered their previous estimates about China’s copper cathode output on concerned about smelting capacity in the north being affected by potential curbs in the week before China celebrates its 70th anniversary in early October.

Domestic copper cathode production has missed expectations so far in 2019 due to maintenance at smelters and slow commissioning of new capacity.
