Steelmakers in part of Tangshan have been required to deepen their curbs over sintering between Sep 22-27

SHANGHAI, Sep 23 (SMM) – Steelmakers in part of Tangshan, top steelmaking hub in China, have been required to deepen their curbs over sintering between September 22-27, to counter poor pollutant diffusion conditions.

The requirement, coming on top of the city’s smog-control plan for September, targets steel mills in districts of Lubei, Lunan, Kaiping, Fengnan, Fengrun, Guye and Gaoxin as well as cities of Luanzhou and Qian’an and Luannan county, but excludes mills located along the coast.

In the six-day period, all but one of the sintering machines at Tangyin Iron & Steel, the northern plant of Tangshan Iron & Steel and Tianzhu Iron & Steel should suspend, while other steel mills in the regions have to cut sintering capacity by no less than 50%.

Authorities also banned transportation into and out of the two ports in Tangshan during CST 20:00 September 22 to CST 20:00 September 27.

A separate smog-control plan by the Fengrun district requires re-rollers across the area to suspend during September 23-October 4, but those who met ultra-low emission standards, are allowed not to stop operation until September 28.
