China air-conditioner production drops 2.9% YoY in Aug

SHANGHAI, Sep 18 (SMM) – China’s production of room air-conditioners fell for a second straight month, dropping 2.9% from a year ago to 14.33 million units in August, data released by the National Bureau of Statistics showed.

In the first eight months of 2019, AC output amounted to 152.4 million units, up 7.9% from the same period last year.

Output of household refrigerators and freezers came in at 7.02 million units last month, 5.2% lower than a year earlier, marking the first year-over-year decline in a year, showed NBS data.

Refrigerator and freezer output in January-August rose 2.8% on a yearly basis to 57.37 million units.

China’s output of household washing machines recovered in August, expanding 38% from a month ago and 4.9% from a year ago to 6.78 million units.

Washing machine output stood at 49.17 million units in January-August, up 6.8% from the same period a year earlier.
