SHANGHAI, Sep 12 (SMM) – China's production of ternary precursors, used to produce ternary materials for power batteries, rose 14% from a month ago and 22% from a year ago to stand at 21,320 mt in August, an SMM survey showed on Thursday September 12.
Output of NCM523 and NCM811 recovered significantly last month. Major producers in Guizhou and Hubei provinces resumed and greater orders spurred output across producers in Zhejiang and Henan provinces. Those producers expected stable demand to support production in September.
Last month, ternary precursors with low- to medium- nickel content accounted for 52% of the total output. The proportion of high-Ni ternary precursors such as NCM811 held stable at 27%.
SMM expects the share of ternary precursors with high nickel content to expand gradually in the future.
