Hydro, Norway: shut down some aluminum foil production capacity to focus on the car and aluminum cans market

Norway's Hydro (Norsk Hydro ASA) recently announced that it will carry out a comprehensive restructuring of its rolled products business, including suspension of production and layoffs in some areas. The restructuring will include closing some of the aluminum foil capacity at the Grevenbroich plant in Germany. At present, Norway's Hydro will refocus its business on markets with growth potential, including the automotive and aluminum cans market, which has added Line 3 to the Grevenbroich plant in Germany and reduced the recycling of cans at the Neuss plant.

SMM, Sept. 12: Hydro (Norsk Hydro ASA), Norway, recently announced that it will carry out a comprehensive restructuring of its rolled products business, including suspension of production and layoffs in some areas.

Mr Hydro said the restructuring would include closing some of the foil capacity at Germany's Grevenbroich plant, mainly because of high costs, too intensive production processes and fierce competition.

At present, Norway's Hydro will refocus its business on markets with growth potential, including the automotive and aluminum cans market, which has added Line 3 to the Grevenbroich plant in Germany and reduced the recycling of cans at the Neuss plant.
