Zinc social inventories dip 1,000 mt on week

Stocks decreased by 1,000 mt from a week ago to stand at 138,700 mt as of Aug 30

SHANGHAI, Aug 30 (SMM) – Social inventories of refined zinc across Shanghai, Tianjin and Guangdong decreased by 1,000 mt from a week ago to stand at 138,700 mt as of Friday August 30, showed SMM data.

Stocks as of Friday August 23 were downwardly revised to 139,700 mt, from the previously reported 140,300 mt.

Limited seaborne cargoes entered the market this week, as the arbitrage window remained closed.

Stocks in Shanghai grew as shipments from Guangdong arrived, while Guangdong inventories shrank as there were more cargoes delivered to Shanghai.

Stocks in Tianjin declined as transport problems deterred shipments from northern smelters.

After the opening, SHFE zinc consolidated around the daily average, touching a high of 26,775 yuan/mt during the session, but then pulled back in the afternoon. SHFE zinc dipped to a low of 26,580 yuan/mt near the close, and finally closed down at 26,580 yuan/mt, down 95 yuan/mt, or 0.36%. Trading volume increased to 62,064 lots.....

On September 22, Western Mining announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, Qinghai Ganxin Mining Development Co., Ltd. (“Ganxin Mining”), recently obtained a Mining License issued by the Department of Natural Resources of Qinghai Province. The mine, named the Geermu Tuwenchahan Iron Polymetallic Mine of Qinghai Ganxin Mining Development Co., Ltd., covers iron, copper, gold, molybdenum, zinc, lead, and silver as the permitted mining commodities. The mining license is valid from August 3, 2026, to August 30, 2043.
