SHANGHAI, Aug 29 (SMM) – China plans to build more than 50,000 5G base stations across 50 cities this year, to boost the development of the new, ultrafast mobile network, said Han Xia, head of the telecommunication management department at the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) on Tuesday August 27.
The MIIT granted 5G licenses for commercial use to the country's top four telecom operators in June.
Data from the MIIT showed that there were 7.32 million mobile communication base stations across the country by the end of June, with 4G base stations accounting for 60.8% or 4.45 million units.
