SHANGHAI, Aug 27 (SMM) – China’s coal hub Linfen in central province Shanxi, one of the most smog-plagued cities in the nation, this week published its plan for production curbs on heavy industries for this winter for public comments.
The city plans to continue to implement different levels of restrictions on different plants between October and March based on a classification system.
China’s environmental authorities last winter ditched “blanket output cuts,” which were adopted in previous years to fight against air pollution.
Linfen’s plan for this winter allows Category-I steel mills and coke plants across the city, with lower emission levels and better environmental status, to decide production controls on their own. Category-A plants were exempted from production curbs last winter.
The city required construction sites that failed to meet standards to suspend last winter, while it did not propose any limitations on construction sites in this winter’s plan.
