SHANGHAI, Aug 27 (SMM) – China imported some 1.36 million mt of chromite (chrome ore) in July, up 2.1% from June but down 0.99% from July 2018, according to the latest data from China Customs.
Imports in June fell 1.22% on the month but rose 29.43% on the year.
In the first seven months of this year, domestic imports of the essential raw material in steelmaking expanded 0.8% from a year ago and stood at 8.96 million mt.
Customs data also showed that China’s imports of ferrochrome, used in the production of stainless steel, declined by 29.87% from June and by 11.33% from July 2018 to stand at 213,900 mt last month. Imports in January-July grew 34.15% on the year to 1.95 million mt.
