Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) refused to reconsider the mining and dam safety license issued for the PolyMet NorthMet copper-nickel mine project.

The copper-nickel mine is a project owned by PolyMet Mining, which is 70 per cent owned by Glencore (Glencore). The project is expected to become the first copper-nickel mine in Minnesota.

Earlier, the Minnesota Court of Appeal also suspended drainage permits for the PolyMet copper and nickel mine in northeastern Minnesota. In June, the court said there were "a number of procedural violations" in the way permits for emissions from the PolyMet copper and nickel mine were issued.
