Glencore (Glencore) closed two shafts at the Mopani copper mine in Zambia, a move that an opposition leader said had left 1400 people out of work.

SMM8 9-Glencore (Glencore) closed two shafts at the Mopani copper mine project in Zambia, a opposition leader said, a move that has led to 1400 job losses.

The Mopani copper mine said in May that it would stop operations on the northern and central shafts of the Mindola mine mainly because "their economic life has come to an end".

Zambia had previously asked Glencore (Glencore Plc) to hand over control of two copper shafts to local contractors.
