SMM, Aug. 6 / PRNewswire-Asianet /-
UAE Global Aluminium (Emirates Global Aluminum) announced on its website that its Guinean company Guinea Alumina Corporation (GAC) will export bauxite for the first time.
EGA's GAC project, at a cost of US $1.4 billion, is the largest new development project in Guinea in the past 40 years. Once GAC reaches full production, it will generate $700m a year, accounting for 5.5 per cent of Guinea's domestic GDP.
阿不都拉 Kalban, CEO of Global Aluminium of the United Arab Emirates, said, "the first export of GAC bauxite not only extends the upstream industry chain of EGA, but also helps boost Guinea's national economy and the exploitation of natural resources. It is an iconic moment for Guinea and EGA, and the security control system of the project is also a global leader."
GAC project operations include ore mining, railways (partial joint ventures) and port infrastructure. Bauxite will be transported from the GAC self-owned wharf at the port of Kamsar to the EGA transfer point by self-navigation barge. The GAC project has two main areas, about 90 kilometres apart, with a licensed area of 690 square kilometres, located in the Bokai mining area in north-west Guinea.
GAC expects its annual production capacity to reach 1.2 million tons and will provide raw materials to customers around the world. EGA's Al Taweelah alumina plant is currently purchasing bauxite from the Guinean bauxite company (Compagnie des Bauxites de Guin é e) through a signing order.
