Battery cells, packs and systems for EVs in China will be required to undergo a range of mandatory safety checks

SHANGHAI, Jul 29 (SMM) – Battery cells, packs and systems for electric vehicles in China will soon face new national safety standards, and be required to undergo a range of mandatory checks, after a run of fire incidents involving autos made by Tesla and Nio raised concerns over the new technology.

China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in early 2018 issued the draft version of electric vehicle lithium-ion battery safety requirements, which would become mandatory standards for the sector.

This aims to strengthen the management of new energy vehicles industry, improve NEV safety requirements, and promote the development of the sector.
