China will impose anti-dumping duties on stainless steel from the EU, Japan, South Korea and Indonesia from Jul 23

SHANGHAI, Jul 22 (SMM) – Less stainless steel from Indonesia has entered China after China launched an anti-dumping probe over stainless steel billets and hot-rolled stainless steel plates from the European Union, Japan, South Korea and Indonesia in July 2018.

The decision from the year-long investigation was announced by China's Ministry of Commerce on Monday July 22, and will impose anti-dumping tariffs of 18.1% to 103.1% from July 23.

Indonesia remained the largest stainless steel exporter to China, but its share declined since October 2018, showed SMM calculations based on data from China Customs. China’s imports of Indonesian stainless steel dropped 55% year on year to 284,800 mt in January-May.

China’s anti-dumping probes, however, had little impact on stainless steel production in Indonesia, as Indonesia stepped up exports to other countries.

China’s net exports of stainless steel shrank 3.62% from a year ago to 845,500 mt in the first five months of 2019.
