The National Bureau of Statistics recently released a series of reports on the achievements of economic and social development on the 70th anniversary of the founding of New China, showing that earth-shaking changes have taken place in the quantity and structure of domestic energy production on the 70th anniversary of the founding of the people's Republic of China. The total amount of energy production increased by 157.8 times, the per capita energy consumption increased by 34.8 times, and the natural gas, primary electricity and other energy sources in the energy structure increased steadily.

Total energy production increased 157.8-fold

In 1949, the total amount of energy production was only 20 million tons of standard coal, and in 2018, the total amount of energy production reached 3.77 billion tons of standard coal, an increase of 157.8 times over 1949, with an average annual growth rate of 7.6 percent.

Per capita energy consumption increased by 34.8 times

In 1953, the per capita energy consumption in China was only 93 kg of standard coal, and in 2018 it reached 3332 kg of standard coal, an increase of 34.8 times over 1953, with an average annual growth rate of 5.7%.

The coefficient of elasticity of energy consumption has been greatly reduced

In 1954, the elastic coefficient of energy consumption in China was as high as 3.54 and 0.50 in 2018, which was 3.04 lower than that in 1954 and 0.49 and 0.01 lower than the average elastic coefficient from 1954 to 2005 and 2006 to 2017, respectively.

Note: coefficient of elasticity of energy consumption = growth rate of energy consumption / GDP growth rate

Big blossoms of major energy varieties

The output of raw coal was only 30 million tons in 1949 and reached 3.68 billion tons in 2018, an increase of 114.0 times over 1949, with an average annual growth rate of 7.1 percent, and the output of crude oil was only 120000 tons in 1949 and 190 million tons in 2018, an increase of 1574.9 times and an average annual growth rate of 11.3 percent. The output of natural gas was only 10 million cubic meters in 1949 and reached 160.27 billion cubic meters in 2018, an increase of 22894.7 times, with an average annual growth rate of 15.7 percent, and the amount of electricity generated was only 4.3 billion kilowatt hours in 1949 and 7.11177 trillion kilowatt hours in 2018, an increase of 1652.9 times and an average annual growth rate of 11.3 percent.

Energy structure is greatly optimized, clean and low-carbon energy is developing rapidly.

In the early days of the founding of New China, raw coal accounted for 96.3% of the total energy production, while other varieties of crude oil accounted for only 0.7%, and hydropower accounted for 3%. In 2018: the share of raw coal fell to 69.3%; the share of crude oil rose steadily to 24.8%, the highest in 1976, and decreased gradually to 7.2% in 2018; natural gas rose from a low of 0.1% in 1957 to a peak of 5.5% in 2018; primary electricity and other energy sources increased from 3.0% in 1949 to a peak of 18.0% in 2018.

Declining energy consumption per unit of GDP

In the 70 years since the founding of New China, with the continuous improvement of China's energy science and technology innovation capability, the energy consumption per unit GDP in 2018 is 43.1% lower than that in 1953, with an average annual decrease of 0.9%. From the value of unit GDP energy consumption index (GDP calculated according to 2018 price), it gradually increased from 0.91t standard coal / 10000 yuan in 1953 to 2.84t standard coal / 10000 yuan in 1960, and then decreased gradually after it began to rise gradually in the 1970s, and dropped to the lowest 0.52t standard coal / 10000 yuan in 2018. from the point of view of the unit energy consumption index value of GDP (calculated according to 2018 price), it gradually increased from 0.91t standard coal / 10000 yuan in 1953 to the highest 2.84t standard coal / 10000 yuan in 1960.
