SMM7 22: this week South Korea is doing its best to persuade the international community to demand that Japan lift restrictions on South Korea's exports of high-tech materials.
The South Korean government said on July 21 that it would formally ask Japan from 22 to 23 to lift export restrictions to South Korea and remove South Korea from the export whitelist and other improper measures.
Earlier this month, Japan announced that it would restrict exports of high-tech materials to South Korea, which involve the manufacture of chips and displays.
Japan also plans to remove South Korea from the list of 27 countries that enjoy preferential treatment in trade with Japan, and the Japanese cabinet will consider amending the relevant laws after summing up opinions by July 24.
In response to this news, the South Korean government has also taken corresponding measures. At the request of the South Korean government, the General Council of the World Trade Organization (WTO) will discuss the trade dispute between the two countries from July 23 to 24.
