[SMM data] Alumina prices plummeted in July, China's loss of electrolytic aluminum capacity narrowed to 20.1 per cent

SMM July 15: domestic alumina prices since the middle of June began to loosen and weaken, as of today (7.15) SMM five places alumina weighted average price has been as low as 2582 yuan / ton, but according to SMM understand that the actual transaction extreme price in the northern region has been as low as 2500 yuan / ton.

With the decline of alumina prices, the profits of the industrial chain gradually shifted to electrolytic aluminum. SMM estimated that the weighted average full cost of China's electrolytic aluminum industry (raw materials based on internal accounting prices) in July was 13105 yuan / ton, down 717 yuan / ton from June. Based on the SMM aluminum ingot spot average price of 13739 yuan / ton in the first half of July, the total cost and profit production capacity of domestic electrolytic aluminum was 29.225 million tons, accounting for 79.9%. In June, based on the SMM aluminum ingot spot average price of 13974 yuan / ton profitable capacity of 15.26 million tons, accounting for 41.8%, June to July for alumina profit process, and has not yet ended.

In July, the highest proportion of production capacity was concentrated in 13000-13500 yuan / ton, accounting for 26.91%, and the operating capacity above 14500 yuan / ton accounted for less than 10%.
