SMM7, 12 June-the average operating rate of the aluminum cable industry continued to strengthen in June, with an increase of nearly 3 percentage points from the previous month to 48.33 percent, an increase of 5 percentage points over the same period last year. The expected increase in aluminum cable production was basically fulfilled in June, and the production peak of aluminum cables this year will be 2 to 3 months later than in 2018.

According to feedback from large cable factories, the output of aluminum cables in July is expected to be basically the same as in June. UHV delivery in Henan is scheduled for July to September, while UHV in Jiangsu is expected to be delivered from August to October. However, delivery delays caused by high temperatures or Rain Water weather cannot be ruled out. According to enterprises, Rain Water weather grid construction site is not suitable for stacking inventory or may require delay in delivery.

Processing fee of Electrotechnical Round Aluminum Bar from main producing areas in China

Source: SMM

From June 10 to July 9, the national aluminum rod processing fee rose steadily: the average monthly aluminum rod processing fee increased by 130 to 150 yuan per ton in Shandong, 160 yuan per ton in Henan, and 155 yuan per ton in Inner Mongolia. The reasons for the increase in aluminum rod processing fees are obvious: the cost of work has increased by 160 yuan per ton, and the processing fee in Inner Mongolia has increased by 155 yuan per ton per month. The reasons for the increase in aluminum rod processing fees are obvious: 1) Aluminum driven by aluminum in the peak consumer season; 2) the downward price of aluminum gives enough room for aluminum rod prices to rise; 3) the environmental protection factors in Jiaozuo area of Henan Province limit production, and the local supply in Henan Province decreased in the middle and late June. The processing fee of aluminum rod is expected to fall slightly in July and August, mainly due to the loose supply of aluminum water in July and August or the increase in aluminum rod production, but the space for falling back is limited.

What Could Change if Middle East Aluminum Trade Reroutes—and Supply Becomes Substitutable
Strait of Hormuz disruptions and Iran tensions are driving up aluminum prices and premiums. Aluminium Bahrain and Qatalum have cut output, while feedstock is tight. Rerouting via Port of Sohar or Saudi ports raises costs and delays. Buyers are turning to China, India, Russia, Canada, and scrap to offset risk. Prolonged disruption could reduce Middle East market share and reprice it as higher-risk supply.
