







SMM7, 12 June: recently, Honeycomb Energy held a brand strategic planning and product launch in Baoding with the theme of "leading the core safety in the era of overlap." At the meeting, Yang Hongxin, general manager of Honeycomb Energy, further clarified the concept of the stack era: "the stack era is an era characterized by the emergence of a large number of new technologies, new materials, new technologies, and new standards, specially for electric vehicles." The press conference released the "stack era" series of power battery products for inter-city travel, operation sharing and short-distance travel, as well as the global launch of cobalt-free and quad material cell products.
Beehive Energy, formerly known as the Great Wall Automotive Power Battery Division, has carried out cell pre-research since 2012. It is an independent beehive energy company based in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province. It is a new energy technology company specializing in automotive power battery materials, cells, modules, PACK, BMS, energy storage, solar energy research and development and manufacturing.
Beehive Energy has seven R & D centers around the world. Currently, R & D centers in Baoding, South Korea, Shanghai and India are already in operation, and R & D centers in the United States, Japan and Wuxi are under construction. In terms of factory construction in China, the pack line, which has now been completed in Baoding in the north, has achieved mass production and is under construction in Changzhou, Jiangsu Province in the east. SOP was realized by the end of 2019.
As the heart of electric vehicle, the development of power battery has been paid more and more attention. Maintenance, safety, life, price, this is the electric vehicle and the traditional fuel vehicle face-to-face confrontation, must cross the four mountains, how to solve the key technical problems of the battery link and product upgrade, to quickly improve product performance, is the direction of mainframe factories and power battery suppliers have been working hard.
The two conceptual products of cobalt-free material and quad material battery officially released by Honeycomb Energy are the representatives of new materials in the stack era, and they are also the first cobalt-free and quad material batteries in the world.
In the existing ternary system of lithium-ion power batteries, the cost of cathode materials accounts for 30% to 45%. Among them, taking 523 system as an example, cobalt accounts for 20%. As a strategic resource, the price fluctuation of cobalt will directly affect the cost of the final cell.
In this context, Honeycomb Energy has officially released the world's first cobalt-free cell product. According to Honeycomb Energy, the performance of cobalt-free materials can reach the same level as NCM811, but the cost of battery materials will be reduced by 5 to 15%, so that the overall cost of the cell can be reduced by 5%, and the supply of raw materials is more stable and secure.
According to reports, there are two key technologies for cobalt-free: first, doping specific elements without unpaired electron spin, reducing the phenomenon of electron superexchange, reducing Li/Ni mixing, and improving electrical properties; second, doping elements with large M / O bond energy can slow down the volume change of the crystal in the process of charge and discharge, stabilize the structure, and improve the cycle life and safety.
It is understood that the quaternion materials developed by honeycomb energy, doping Mx,Mx on the basis of NCM system will enhance the boundary strength between primary particles, so it will reduce the formation of microgaps in the process of harmful phase transition. So that its cycle performance is better than NCM811 material, at the same time, it can achieve the characteristics of better heat resistance, less gas production and higher safety. In the end, it appears on the power battery with higher capacity, longer life and better safety.
According to Honeycomb Energy, its quad material cell project, which was also established in September 2018, will complete material development by the end of this year, and is expected to realize the SOP of quad material cells in the fourth quarter of 2020.
Hive Energy expects domestic production capacity to reach 76GW in 2025 and global total production capacity to reach 100GWh, with a cumulative investment of 26 billion yuan for factory construction. Including Ningde era, Wanxiang A123, SK and other domestic and foreign battery enterprises are also planning to expand their own production capacity, the fierce market competition has gradually begun. Safety and cost, the focus of these two consumers and car companies is even more challenging for the "stack era" that the hive adheres to. How to improve the efficiency and realize the matching mass production as soon as possible is the most important issue in front of the hive.
