As of Jul 11, 553# silicon that did not undergo oxygen-refining traded at 9,700 yuan/mt in Kunming

SHANGHAI, Jul 11 (SMM) – Prices of silicon metal have trended downwards over the past month, as producers in Yunnan resumed in a rainy season.

As of Thursday July 11, 553# silicon that did not undergo oxygen-refining traded at 9,700 yuan/mt in Kunming, while 553# that undertook oxygen-refining traded at 10,200 yuan/mt.

Continued losses pushed prices to cost lines across producers, which dampened production enthusiasm.

Producers, however, hesitated to suspend as they have yet to recover the costs for igniting the furnaces in less than a month since resumption and as they have sufficient stockpiles of raw materials.

Some silicon producers told SMM that they will hold back sales and close after raw materials run out, if prices continue to fall.
