SHANGHAI, Jul 10 (SMM) – The China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) said that auto sales across the world’s largest market extended their declines in June, after the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) earlier this week reported the first increase in 13 months.
About 1.73 million passenger vehicles were sold in China last month, according to data from the CAAM released on Wednesday July 10. This was down 7.8% year on year, smaller than the decline of 17.4% in May, when sales came at 1.56 million units.
The CPCA said on Monday July 8 that retail sales of sedans, sport utility vehicles, multipurpose vehicles and minivans across China stood at 1.8 million units in June, up 4.9% from June 2018, the first year-over-year gain in 13 months.
Data from the CAAM also showed that overall sales of automobiles declined 9.6% year on year to stand at 2.06 million units in June.
Sales of new energy vehicles registered a year-over-year increase of 80% for June and 49.6% for January-June.
