SMM6 News of the 28th of July:

China's silicon exports rose 17.3 per cent from a month earlier to 67000 tons in May, down 16.9 per cent from a year earlier, according to customs data.

From January to May 2019, China's exports of silicon metal totaled 301000 tons, down 12.1 percent from the same period last year and expanding from January to April.

SMM believes that the month-on-month increase in silicon exports in May is not due to the pick-up in demand, and that concentrated delivery by traders in late May is the main reason for the increase in export volume. With the advent of the rainy season, most market participants are more pessimistic about the future, thinking that silicon prices are more likely to fall. Under the influence of this psychology, both traders and foreign downstream procurement are more cautious, many domestic traders will not purchase until the delivery time, so the port arrival quantity is flat, far lower than the same period last year. Some foreign downstream enterprises will take a summer break from July to August. SMM believes that the export volume may be barely maintained in June, but there is a possibility that it will fall from July to August.
