SMM6, April 24: Barminco has won a major contract for the Khoemacau copper mine project in southern Africa worth US $800m.
In the next five years, Barminco will achieve an annual production capacity of 3.6 million tons of sulfides in the fifth mining area through the provision of infrastructure, mine development and other measures.
Khoemacau copper deposit is located in the Kalahari copper belt with great potential in Botswana. It has a total sulphide resource of 502 million tons, a copper grade of 1.4% and a silver content of 17 g / ton.
The sulphide resources in the fifth mining area reach 91.7 million tons, the copper grade is 2.1%, and the silver content is 22 g / ton.
The project involved three underground mines with a sulphide production of approximately 1.2 million tons per mine in the first five years of production. Production at these mines is currently expected to begin in the first half of 2021.
