[SMM analysis] normal production of new energy materials in and around Yibin M6.0 earthquake

Published: Jun 18, 2019 11:58

SMM, June 18 / PRNewswire-Asianet /-

According to the China Seismological Network, an earthquake of magnitude 6.0 occurred in Changning County, Yibin City, Sichuan Province at 22:55 on June 17 (28.34N, 104.90 E) with a focal depth of 16km. The epicenter of the earthquake was located in Shuanghe Town, Changning County, 38 kilometers away from Yibin City and 22 kilometers away from Changning County seat. Since the end of last year, this is the third time that an earthquake of magnitude 5 or above has occurred in Yibin.

The earthquake mainly affected Yibin and surrounding cities, Meishan City, north of the epicenter, Chengdu; southwest of the epicenter, Panzhihua City, part of the distribution of cobalt sulfate, ternary precursors and ternary material manufacturers, according to SMM, the producers in this area are far from the source, and most of them are new factories, strong seismic capacity, and have not suffered economic losses.

According to the communication and understanding between SMM and Sichuan lithium salt production enterprises, so far, the production work of various lithium salt manufacturers, including Tianqi Lithium Industry, Yahua Group, Sichuan Nengsheng, Zhiyuan Lithium Industry, etc., has not been affected.

Affected by the weak production and marketing of new energy vehicles, the news of production reduction in battery plants is frequently spread, and it is expected that the demand will be lower upstream in the next quarter, and the price of cobalt and lithium will be under pressure. On June 18, 2019, SMM estimated that cobalt sulfate in China was 4-42000 yuan / ton and battery-grade lithium carbonate 7.4-76000 yuan / ton.
