Greater arrivals grow zinc social inventories over weekend

Stocks increased by 4,300 mt from Jun 14 to stand at 158,200 mt as of Jun 17

SHANGHAI, Jun 17 (SMM) – Zinc social inventories significantly grew over the weekend, as smelters stepped up shipments to warehouses for warrants ahead of delivery.

Inflows of seaborne materials also helped grew domestic inventories, as downstream consumption did not improve.

SMM data showed that social inventories of refined zinc across Shanghai, Tianjin and Guangdong increased by 4,300 mt from Friday June 14, and by 14,200 mt from Monday June 10, to stand at 158,200 mt as of Monday June 17.

According to the latest customs data, China’s total exports of die-casting zinc alloy from January to February reached 689.33 mt, up slightly by 0.9 percentage points YoY on a cumulative basis; imports, however, totaled 48.11 million mt, down 35.46 percentage points YoY on a cumulative basis. Overall, China’s die-casting zinc alloy trade from January to February showed a pattern of slightly higher exports and a significant pullback in imports.
