China crude steel production growth slows to 10% in May: NBS

Daily average output rose 1.4% from Apr to 2.87 million mt

SHANGHAI, Jun 14 (SMM) – Production of crude steel in China grew 10% from a year ago in May, slower than 12.7% in April, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said on Friday June 14.

With daily average output rising 1.4% from April to 2.87 million mt, crude steel production for the month came in at 89.09 million mt, up from 85.03 million mt in April.

This brought production in the first five months of the year to 405 million mt, standing 10.2% higher than the same period last year.

For steel products, production rose at an unchanged annual pace of 11.5% to 107.4 million mt in May. Production in January-May amounted to 480.36 million mt, up 11.2% year on year.
