SHANGHAI, May 29 (SMM) – Mexican authorities imposed a provisional anti-dumping duty on imports of Chinese aluminium foil coils on May 25, according to a preliminary ruling announced on May 24.

The products subject to the duty are classified under the HS code of 76071101. Duties stand between $0.17968-1.1634/kg. No duties are imposed on imports that cost $ 3.4817/kg or more.

Customs data showed that only 3.98% of Chinese exports of aluminium foil entered Mexico in 2018. The affected products, aluminium foil of a thickness not exceeding 0.2 mm, took an even smaller share.

China exported some 1.29 million mt of aluminium foil last year, with India, Thailand, and South Korea as the top three export destinations.

Mexico launched the anti-dumping investigation on imports of aluminium foil coils from China on August 28, 2018. Mexican firm Almexa Aluminio was the petitioner in the case, according to the government release.
