SHANGHAI, May 27 (SMM) – Silicon producers in the south remained on prices of non-oxidised #553 silicon as hydropower shortages in the dry season drove large producers to cut supplies, an SMM survey found on Monday May 27.
Downstream orders for non-oxidised #553 silicon at producers in Sichuan and Chongqing have been scheduled till mid-June, and this kept those mills from accepting more forward orders from consumers.
SMM learned that some mills with spot products of non-oxidised #553 silicon refrained from offloading cargoes in anticipation of higher prices.
As of Monday May 27, prices of non-oxidised #553 silicon stood at 10,700-10,800 yuan/mt in the eastern market, up 100 yuan/mt from Friday May 24, SMM assessed. Prices climbed some 150 yuan/mt on the week as of Monday May 27.
