Shanghai to intensify car emissions standards in Jul

Industry News 03:07:35PM May 13, 2019 Source:SMM

SHANGHAI, May 13 (SMM) – Shanghai planned to implement the national VI B emissions standard, one of the world's toughest standards, for light-duty vehicles weighing less than 3,500 kg on July 1, according to a statement by the Shanghai government on April 19.

Sales of substandard light-duty vehicles will be banned from July 1. This is expected to cut the city's annual emissions of nitrogen oxides by 2,000 mt and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) by 1,000 mt.

According to the new VI B standard, the carbon monoxide emission of cars should not exceed 500 mg/km, and the oxynitride emission should not exceed 35 mg/km.

These compared with 1,000 mg/km and 60 mg/km, respectively, in the existing National V standard.
