China's CPI and PPI both picked up in April!

SMM News: in April 2019, consumer prices rose 2.5 per cent year-on-year. Of these, cities rose 2.5 per cent and rural areas 2.6 per cent; food prices rose 6.1 per cent and non-food prices rose 1.7 per cent; consumer prices rose 2.9 per cent and service prices rose 2.0 per cent.

Consumer prices rose 0.1% in April from a month earlier. Of this total, both urban and rural areas rose 0.1 per cent; food prices fell 0.1 per cent and non-food prices rose 0.1 per cent; consumer prices were the same as last month, and service prices rose 0.2 per cent.

 

 

I. year-on-year changes in the prices of all kinds of goods and services

In April, food, tobacco and alcohol prices rose 4.7% from a year earlier, affecting the CPI (consumer price index) rose about 1.40%. Among them, the price of fresh vegetables increased by 17.4%, affecting CPI by about 0.43%, and the price of fresh fruit by 11.9%, affecting CPI by about 0.22%. Livestock meat prices rose 10.1%, affecting CPI rose by about 0.42% (pork prices rose 14.4%, affecting CPI rose about 0.31%); The price of poultry meat increased by 5.0%, affecting CPI by about 0. 06%, egg price by 2.6%, CPI by about 0.01%, and grain price by 0.4%, affecting CPI by about 0. 01%. Aquatic product prices fell by 1.4 per cent, affecting a drop of about 0.03 per cent in CPI.

The other seven categories of prices are up and down from a year earlier. Of these, health care, education, culture and entertainment, and housing prices rose by 2.6%, 2.5% and 2.0%, respectively. The prices of other supplies and services, clothing, daily necessities and services increased by 1.9%, 1.8% and 1.1%, respectively; Transport and communications prices fell by 0.5 per cent.

 

II. Month-on-month changes in the prices of various types of goods and services

In April, the price of food, tobacco and alcohol was the same as last month. Among them, the price of eggs increased by 3.3%, affecting CPI by about 0.02%, and the price of fresh fruit by 2.6%, affecting CPI by about 0.05%. Livestock meat prices rose 0.9%, affecting CPI rose by about 0. 04% (pork prices rose by 1.6%, affecting CPI rose by about 0. 04%); Aquatic product prices rose by 0.5%, affecting CPI by about 0.01%, poultry meat prices by 0.4%, and fresh vegetable prices by 4.5%, affecting CPI by about 0.13%.

Prices in the other seven categories rose three times over the previous month. Among them, the prices of other supplies and services, education, culture and entertainment rose by 0.4% and 0.3% respectively, while the prices of daily necessities and services and health care all rose by 0.1%. The prices of clothing, housing, transportation and communications are all the same as last month.

Among the industrial producer prices, the prices of means of production rose 0.9 percent over the same period last year, an increase of 0.6 percentage points over the previous month, and affected the overall level of industrial producer prices to rise by about 0.66 percentage points. Among the purchase prices of industrial producers, the prices of construction materials and non-metals rose 5.1% compared with the same period last year, the prices of ferrous metals rose 3.1%, and the prices of fuel power rose 1.6%. The prices of chemical raw materials fell 2.8%, and the prices of non-ferrous materials and wires fell 1.6%.
