SHANGHAI, May 5 (SMM) – About 298,900 units of new energy vehicles (NEVs) were sold in China in the first three months of 2019, up 109.7% from a year ago, according to data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) released on April 12.

Pure electric cars accounted for 227,000 units, up 121.4% year on year, and sales of plug-in hybrid rose 79.1% to 72,000 units.

However, overall sales of cars in China posted an 11.3% year-over-year decline in January-March, and stood at 6.37 million units.

The year-on-year drop in auto sales in March was much smaller than the declines in January and February, showing signs of recovery in the market.
