SMM News: Indian stainless steel production increased by more than 7% in 2018 to 3.47 million tons, according to K K Pahuja, chairman of the Indian stainless Steel Development Association. The increase in stainless steel production in India has benefited from steady growth in construction, infrastructure, transportation and consumption of durable goods. Last year, the manufacture of stainless steel subway cars in India increased significantly. The investment of the new generation of trains and the modernization of railway stations have opened up new application space for stainless steel. All these have been the driving force behind the growth of stainless steel in India. Exports of Indian stainless steel have declined as a result of global trade protection.
