Canadians appeal against death penalty Canada may need to seriously consider China-Canada relations

SMM1, 15 March: yesterday, the Intermediate people's Court of Dalian City, Liaoning Province, issued a judgment of first instance on the Canadian Schellenberg, who was sentenced to death in accordance with the law for the crime of smuggling drugs, and confiscated all his personal property.

The above is a brief description of the case, after the media asked Schellenberg's question, and the Foreign Ministry said that what should be dealt with by the court. As the executive branch, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs should not intervene. This is the embodiment of the rule of law. It is worth noting that there is no death penalty in Canadian law, and the Canadian Prime Minister said afterwards that they were extremely concerned as a government.

For more than 40 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Canada, there have been no major disputes. From January to November 2018, the import and export trade volume between China and Canada reached 58.33 million US dollars, about 1/10 of the trade volume with the United States. Accounting for about 1.4 per cent of China's total trade, China imports US $32.15 million and exports US $26.18 million. It is an important trading partner in North America. Friction between China and the United States is not conducive to trade exchanges between the two sides. Canada has long relied on the United States for trade, and even arrested Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou at the request of the United States in November. Canada may have to consider pulling out of the Sino-US dispute to return Sino-Canadian relations to the right path. This is what the people want. A trip to benefit the country and the people.
