SMM1, July 7: the chairman of the Election Commission of the Democratic Republic of the Congo says the preliminary results of the chaotic presidential election in the Democratic Republic of the Congo will be postponed until after Sunday's deadline. Corn eille Nangaa, chairman of the election committee known as CENI, said the committee had received only 47 percent of the votes as of Saturday, and it was not clear when the results would be released. The unorganized vote to elect the successor of President Joseph Kabiyra (Joseph Kabila) is the biggest resistance to postponing the new election. Kabiyra has ruled a country of 80 million people since his father was killed in 2001. The vote on 30 December could mark the first transition of democratic power in the Democratic Republic of the Congo since independence from Belgium in 1960. However, tensions in the country are likely to rise after observers reported a series of electoral irregularities.

The UN Security Council (United Nations Security Council), concerned that disputes and delays could trigger the kind of violent unrest that followed the 2006 and 2011 elections, met on Friday to discuss how to deal with it, but failed to reach an agreement, according to an internal government report. The United States condemned the lack of transparency in the competition, while China, the main investor, praised the process.

According to the internal report, (Leila Zerrougui), head of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, said at the meeting: "tensions are rising as CENI tabulates the results of the elections. In particular, given the posture of the political parties and candidates. " However, the report went on to say that the 15 members of the Security Council are "divided on the understanding of the issues that beset the process, and on whether the Security Council should issue a press statement."
