SMM12, 20 Feb: the European Union has formally reached an agreement to cut carbon dioxide emissions from new cars by 37.5% by 2030, which will force automakers to sell more electric vehicles in Europe.

As we reported earlier this year, the European Parliament is working to meet its target of reducing emissions by 40 per cent by 2030, but as an important part of the European car industry, Germany is lobbying for new cars to cut emissions by no more than 30 per cent.

The European Council is pushing for a 35% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions from new cars by 2030, resulting in a 37.5% compromise.

The agreement was officially announced this week by the European Union's climate change and energy commissioner, Miguel Avias Qaneet (Miguel Arias Canete).

(VDA), the German association of automotive industries, which represents BMW (BMW), Daimler (Daimler) and Volkswagen (Volkswagen), said in a statement on the deal that emissions limits would apply to the overall sales of carmakers. This will force them to sell more electric and low-emission cars to make up for their gasoline and diesel-powered cars, but carmakers are not satisfied.

Although all of these carmakers claim to have invested heavily in electric cars. ,
