SMM12 17-it is reported that Australia's Alcoa Company has won three new gas supply agreements. From 2020, the three agreements will together provide nearly 25% of the company's needs in Western Australia. Michael Parker, president of Alcoa Alumina and managing director of Alcoa in Australia, said, "in ensuring these new gas contracts, we have demonstrated to our employees, suppliers, customers and our communities that fulfill our commitments to the country." He further said: "Alcoa's three Western Australian smelters are the world's largest integrated source of alumina and an important source of economic activity. They provide jobs for more than 3000 Western Australians, mainly in the southwest of the state, and bring about A $1.4 billion (US $1.01 billion) to Western Australian suppliers. Alcoa is the single largest natural gas user in Western Australia. It consumes about 25% of the state's total domestic gas supply.

Chinalco is 60 per cent owned by Alcoa Corp and the remaining 40 per cent owned by Alumina Limited. Alcoa operates two bauxite mines and three alumina refineries in Western Australia and holds a 55 per cent stake in the Portland aluminium smelter in Victoria. The company mines about 36 million tons of bauxite a year and produces 300000 tons of aluminum.
