SMM11, September 9: October Shanghai Nonferrous Network (SMM) research metal silicon industry start-up rate of 56.8%, an increase of 0.7% from the previous month, an increase of 8.3% over the same period last year. The increase in operating rate is mainly due to the recovery of maintenance capacity.
In October, the total output of silicon metal in China was 272000 tons, an increase of 1.1 percent over the previous month and an increase of 13.2 percent over the same period last year. From January to October, the cumulative output of silicon metal in China was 2.295 million tons, an increase of 13.1 per cent over the same period last year.
According to SMM research, Sichuan and Yunnan silicon plants stock more raw materials until late November, so although the electricity price level in the two provinces is on the high side compared with the same period last year, because of the surplus of raw materials, most silicon plants did not choose to reduce or stop production at the first time after the electricity price increase. The number of starts in the south is expected to fall sharply in late November, and the silicon sector's start-up rate will fall back to around 54 per cent in November.
