SMM11, September 9: Albemarle CEO Lu Ke Kissam (Luke Kissam) told analysts on the third quarter financial conference call that the company has suspended engineering work on a lithium carbonate expansion project in Chile. The project is assessing signs of rising demand for finer lithium hydroxide.
He also stressed that there was "no conflict" between the company and the environmental authorities over the issue of water rights.
The company's Atacama project is expected to increase production capacity by 40,000 tons of lithium carbonate per year.
